her jaw is slightly crooked.
it’s almost unnoticeable, but I can see,
between her top and bottom teeth,
the smallest shift in parallel lines.
I catch it when she vowels.
when her smiles breaks -
and settles.
I don’t think she even knows.
I don’t think anyones ever noticed.
but I can see.
I see with the awe of a thousand poets
and painters and worshipers,
philosophers, architects, artists,
lovers -
the blacks of my pupils
pool with every beautiful thing about her.
as she spoke I could see.
